Musician and Composer. Played the vibraphone. Began on guitar at age seven, and piano at 11; later switched to vibraphone. Was co-founder of the acclaimed Modern Jazz Quartet. He took classical music and improvised it adding jazz and pop. Played with many of the jazz greats including: Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Woody Herman and Coleman Hawkins. (bio by: Fred Beisser)
