Martha V. (Pennington) McGranor, 86, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in Northgate Manor. Born on December 1, 1925 in Glen Campbell, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ollie (Galentine) Pennington.
Mrs. McGranor was the youngest of a rather large family of nine, who have all since passed. Martha grew up in Niagara Falls, NY, after her mother died when she was seven years old, under the care of primarily Paul and Winifred (Pennington) Mannerberg, her sister. She attended both South Junior High School and Niagara Falls High School. Mrs. McGranor met her husband, Ray E. McGranor, who was also from Pennsylvania, who came to Niagara Falls, NY seeking employment, following World War II. On September 3, 1948, they married and had a home on D Street, until 1957 when the NYS Power Authority moved their home to Veterans Heights in the Town of Niagara, where they enjoyed their lives doing home improvements and maintaining their grounds.
During her life, Mrs. McGranor worked at Kimberly-Clark, Nabisco, Machelor Maintenance and Pages Whistle Pig. During her middle years, Martha was active in town political campaigns and served a term as Town Historian and performed historical research for the Town of Niagara. She enjoyed local bingo, thriller books and movies, her dogs and occasionally babysitting for her grandchildren, Kellie, Cassie and Michael McGranor. Mrs. McGranor was married to her husband, Ray, for 62 years. Martha was stricken with Alzheimer's about 12 years ago. Her husband took care of her during her decline, until he passed away on February 22, 2011, at the age of 84, not long after Martha was placed in a nursing home, following a fall.
Mrs. McGranor is survived by her son, Ray P. (Diane) McGranor of Niagara Falls, NY; her grandchildren, Kellie, Cassie and Michael McGranor; her great-grandchild, Brianna Kercado and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
