Max was the only child of Robert H. and Ruby Pearl (Anselment) Frye. He was married for 58 years to Anita Griggs. He was a member of the St. Joseph Elks Lodge # 40 since 1937. He served during World War II as a company grade officer in the US Army in Italy.

Robert Max Frye, 99, St. Joseph, peacefully passed away at home on December 10, 2010, surrounded by family and friends.

Max was born November 18, 1911, in Oregon, Mo.

Max started his work career as greens-keeper for the St. Joseph Country Club during the depression years. He went on to become a meter reader for St. Joseph Power and Light Company and in 1934 he started working at St. Joseph Elks Lodge #40 as club manager. He served his nation during World War II as a company grade officer with the United States Army. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for a gallant action performed in Italy. He was a member of St. Joseph Lodge #78, A.F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite; Moila Shrine; American Legion Post #359;; former member of the High Twelve Club #49; and life member emeritus of Royal Order of Jesters, Court #98.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Elks Lodge No. 40 since 1937. He served as Exalted Ruler from 1973 to 1974; secretary 1940 to 1979; President of Missouri Elks Association 1975 to 1976; Treasurer of Missouri Elks Association 1953 to 1994, except while in the service and term as State President; District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Missouri Northwest 1980 to 1981; Grand Lodge Pardons Pardon Commissioner 1986 to 1987; and Comptroller Missouri Elks Benevolent Trust 1963 to 1996. He was awarded the Honorary Life Membership of Lodge No. 40 April 17, 1977. He served on the following Missouri Elks Association Committees: Scholarship Chairman, State Convention Committee for 30 years, State Budget Committee, and By-Laws Committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. And Ruby Pearl (Anselment) Frye and his wife of 58 years, Anita (Griggs) Frye.

He is survived by his children, Robert Max Frye Jr. And wife, Judy, Kansas City; Linda Lee Welch and husband, John, St. Joseph, William Allen Frye and wife, Elizabeth, Columbia, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca, Amanda, Cory, Brandt, and Brandi; six great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Cayden C., Zayne, Logan, Gavin, Cayden M.

Memorial service: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Chapel. Entombment Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Missouri Elks Benevolent Trust or a charity of the donor's choice.
