James Eugene "Gene" Reed, 71, of Pana died Saturday, October 13, 2012 in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
He was born January 2, 1941 in Pana, IL, the son of John Francis & Naomi V. Bland Reed. A graduate of Pana High School Class of 1959, Gene lived in Pana his entire life. During High School, Gene worked at the Pana A&P Store and later at Firestone. He opened Gene Reed Photography in September 1972 and had continued until the present. Photography was not just a job with Gene, but his love. He enjoyed photographing local sporting events, community events and news stories.
Gene is survived by his brothers: Dennis Reed & wife, Lynda, Pana, IL and Norman Reed & wife Marjorie, Forsyth IL; nieces & nephews: Mark Reed & wife Kelly, Pana; Gina Trexler & husband Mike, Pana; Michael Reed & wife Joan, Edwardsville; John Reed & wife Jodi, Pana; Laurie Sievers, Sullivan; Angela Kasarcik & husband Dave, Bolingbrook; Shawn Reed, Forsyth; great nieces & nephews: Jaclyn, Blake, Justin, Reagan, Jennifer, Jessica, Sarah, Jakob, and Cameron; and by his great great nephew Conner.
He was preceded in death by his father on February 13, 1961, by his mother on August 16, 2007, and his sister Elaine Sievers.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
