Thomas Powers Burt

Thomas Powers Burt, 62 years old, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the Veterans Administration hospital in Dearborn where he had been a patient since July. He was born in Ransom township, Hillsdale county, June 29, 1889, the son of Matthew and Mary Powers Burt.
His entire life was spent in this community with the exception of a short time spent in Arizona. The last five years he and his family had lived in Hudson. He was a member of Hannon-Colvin post of the American Legion, having been in the service of his country for a time during World War I. He was a faithful member of the local Legion post and was always ready to help when something needed to be done. He loved his family and was a friend to all. He will be greatly missed in this community.
Mr. Burt is survived by his wife, Dosia; one daughter, Elizabeth; two sons, Thomas William and Joseph, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson of Hudson and Mrs. Anna Smith of Hillsdale; and two brothers, Kile of Addison and Elias of Hudson.
The funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Brown & Eagle Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas Toy officiated assisted by Rec. Luren Strait. A military service was conducted by Hannon-Colvin post of the American Legion at the Evergreen cemetery near Ransom where the burial took place. The pall bearers were Donald Murphy, Donald Elliot, Lloyd Merriam, Leo A. Meredith, Robert Guss, and Richard McGill.
