Samuel Paul Kendrick, 87, of 6969 Whitmell School Road, Danville, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born June 28, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Author Paul Kendrick and Blanch Holly Kendrick. He lived most of his life in the Whitmell Community and was employed by Danville Traction and Power Company for 30 years as a bus driver. He retired in 1987 from Dan River Inc., where he was employed as a truck driver. He was married to Jeanette Aherron Kendrick in 1976.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda K. Gregory, of Chatham; one son, Leon Dwight Kendrick, of Danville; three sisters, Gladys Carlton, Ann Pace and Nancy Haskins; and one brother, Joseph W. Kendrick. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ernestine Oakes Kendrick; one son, Steven Wayne Kendrick; and three brothers, Vincent Kendrick, Posey Kendrick and Lloyd Kendrick.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tim Oakes. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Feb.7, 2010, at the funeral home, and at other times they will be at the residence, 6969 Whitmell School Road, Danville.
