Thelma M. Ervin, 94, Kokomo, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Windsor Estates Health & Rehab. She was born October 11, 1916 in Howard County, the daughter of Clarence and May (Jackson) Coate. On October 1, 1949 at the United Brethren Church, Galveston, she married Albert Ervin, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1985.
Thelma was a 1933 graduate of Clay Township High School. She started working for Crosley Radio in 1935 and continued with Delco Radio until she retired in 1972. She was a member of UAW 292, Delco 35 club, Clay Alpha Club, The Hobby House and the Senior Center. She was a former member of the Galveston United Methodist Church and the Progressive Sunday School Class.
Thelma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Kathy Ervin of Kokomo; two grandsons and their wives, Travis and Laurie Ervin of Kokomo, Sean and Melissa Ervin of Racine, Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, Blake, Nicholas, Riley, Megan, Allyson, Mason; two special nieces, Marn Stamm and Diane Coate. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Irene Cranmer and two brothers, Col. Raymond Coate and Roland Coate.
A private graveside services will be held at Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Crown Point Cemetery, 1101 East Sycamore Street, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children, 30 South Meridian Street, Suite 200, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
