Otis married Pauline Moorman. Otis worked across the railroad tracks from their home in Stephensport. He was employed by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad as a telegrapher and sold tickets at the depot, spending nearly 50 years at this profession before retiring.
Otis was very well read. He spent every evening reading everything that he could get his hands on. Several local attorneys would provide him with law books to stay current on decisions rendered. One day an older gentleman from Brandenburg, Kentucky, referred to as "The Judge" passed away leaving his entire library of law books to Otis.
