Lucy was born to Charles C. and Lourania Jane (Osborn) Thomas in Illinois. They moved to Canada to help out Lourania's Brother who had a large wheat farm and they were promised half of the crop. While there in Canada Lucy meet and married James C. Rennie in 1918 in Strathmore, Alberta, Canada while James was in Service. After World War 1 they moved to Arkansas.
Lucy was an accomplished seamstress and worked at the Marion Hotel in Little Rock, in housekeeping. She had a deformed hand, but was able to play the violin.
