Death From reading inquest & death certificate: Fatally ill and delirious with fever, Lizzie fell out of a 2nd story window at home, 2865 E. 93rd St, at abt 6:20 a.m. 21 Oct 1918. She died within minutes. A coroner's inquest was held with the following witnesses: her husband Edward Hjerpe; the attending doctor, Robert A Pointon; and Tom Pappas, a man who rushed to her aid after the fall. Her death certificate does not mention the fall and lists as cause of death lobar pneumonia complicated by organic heart disease. In the inquest transcript husband Edward Hjerpe reports her 30th birthday as June 6, 1918 (death cert may say June 16, or could be a common followed by 6). She was born at South Chicago where he was also born. Her father is from Scotland and mother from Ireland. Lizzie was 5'7", 166 pounds, no children, married 3 yrs next Feb. Edward's mother lives nearby. Lizzie had been very ill for several days. The doctor (Robert A Pointon) said she had lobar pneumonia complicated by chronic organic heart disease ("Leaking heart"). She was feverish, spitting up blood, and may die within 24 hours due to pneumonia complicated by heart disease. The night before her death, Lizzie asked Edward to put her wedding ring on her finger.
