Mr. Barnard died at his home on Tuesday after a short illness in his 96th year. He was born in the township of Oxford-on Rideau, a son of the late Asa Barnard and his wife, Ann Jane Tackaberry and had lived almost his entire life in Oxford Mills where he was well known for his fine work as a cabinet maker and carpenter. He had done considerable fine work in the United church and had also built a large number of homes in Oxford Mills and in the district also. He was the inventor in 1894 of a curd mill for cheese factories and the same machine is still used in many places.

He married Margaret Edith Scott, second daughter of the late John Scott and his wife, Mary A. Morrison at Acton's Corners Anglican church in 1899; his wife survives him. Mr. Barnard was the last surviving member of a family of nine children.

Numerous floral tributes showed the high esteem in which Mr. Barnard was held in the community.
