Carl was born Carl Johanneson in Svenneby, Goteborg och Bohus, Sverige, Sweden to Johannes Olsson ( b. 15 July 1817 Goteborg, Sweden and d. 23 Apr 1883 Svenneby, Goteborg och Bohus, Sverige, Sweden) and Olena Johansdotter (b. 1829 Sweden). He immigrated to Chicago in 1888 or 1889 and took the name Carl Olson. His brother Oscar came to Woodstock, IL a few years prior and also took the surname Olson instead of Johanneson. Carl had 3 children with his first wife Olivina: Engwald Odel, Richard "Dick" Carl, and Oscar and 5 children with his second wife Elizabeth: Harold, Unknown infant, Henry, Barnhardt "Barney" James, and Arthur.
