Mr. Curtis (Pap) Mayes, 68, of Middlesboro passed away Sunday, May 23 in the Claiborne County Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Mayes of Middlesboro; six daughters, Mrs. Frankie Harris of Cumberland Gap; Mrs. Madge Thacker of West Virginia; Mrs. Betty O'Dell of Alexandria, Va.; Mrs. Jewell Kelley [sic], Mrs. Trudy Parker, Mrs. Loretta Webb, all of Middlesboro; five sons, Rudy and Scott Mayes, both of Middlesboro; Glenn Mayes of Falls Church, Va.; Bill Mayes of Bladensburg, Maryland; and Fred Mayes of Middlesboro; four brothers, Harrison Mayes of Middlesboro; Bill Mayes of Perris, Calif.; John Mayes of Miami, Fla.; and Sam Mayes of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Lillie Earls [sic - Zillie Earl] of Pensacola, Fla.; and Stella Cupp of Dearborne, Mich.; and 18 grandchildren.

Gravesite services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Shoemaker Cemetery with the Rev. Lloyd England officiating. Interment will follow.

The family will receive friends at the Reece Funeral Home, New Tazewell, this evening from 7 until 9 p.m.

Reece Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
