BARKER, Thomas W. "Tom," 79, of Rockville, passed away on August 5, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mary Barker; sisters, Irma Holt, Linda Disse; brother, Harry Barker. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years Barbara C. Barker; daughters, Kathy B. Hutchinson (Harvey), Donna Boyer (Scott); grandchildren, Cole Leadbetter (Ashlee), Katie Wooten (Rob); great-grandchild, Evan Thomas Leadbetter; brothers and sisters, Ray Childress, Albert "Plug" Barker, Annie Fair, Mike Barker (Rose), John Barker (Anne); beloved beagle of 18 years, Susie; special friends, Barbara and Lewis Guyton; and lots of nieces, nephews and other family as well as very special friends. Tom proudly served in the marines during the Korean War, loved and served the Lord; devoted member of St. Matthew's UMC since 1956, spiritual mentor to many, taught Sunday school for 25 years. Was a friend to everyone and never knew a stranger, he was the rock who held the family together through tough times. He played in the Barker country and gospel family band. The band gave time and efforts to many charitable causes particularly Camp Rainbow which held a special place in their hearts. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 9 at 11 a.m. in St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Interment to follow in church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthews UMC or the Centerville Rescue #3.
