Lawrence C. Franklin, 86, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Corning Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Rochester, NY on

April 12, 1917, he was the son of the late Walter and Nona Franklin (Robinson) of Elkland, PA. He was also predeceased by his stepfather, Sherman Hollock, also of Elkland, PA.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois of Woodhull, NY; his son, Charles of Colchester, VT and daughter, Vivian Tidrick (Franklin) of Spokane, WA.

Lawrence is also survived by three grandsons, Eric Ahearn of Coeur d'Alene, ID and Christian and Joshua Franklin of South Burlington, VT, as well as his sister, Eva Rice (Franklin) of Addison, NY and his step-brother, Duane Hollock of Columbia Crossroads, PA.

Also known as "Ben" and "Frankie," Lawrence was both an Army and Marine Corps veteran who served his country valiantly during WWII. He was a member of the Grand Battalion at the Navy Building in Washington, DC., and participated in action against the enemy while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid in Okinawa.

Following the war, Lawrence returned to the local area from Washington, DC with his wife, Lois, and purchased and maintained a dairy farm in Woodhull, NY for several decades. He also worked for many years at both the Elkland Leather Company in Elkland, PA and the Ingersoll-Rand (now Dresser-Rand) Company in Painted Post, NY.

Lawrence's friends and relatives especially loved him for his unflagging good will, generosity of spirit and keen sense of humor. His cheerful laugh and the genuine warmth and laughter he seemed to always generate will be a lasting lagacy to all who knew him.

Calling hours for friends and family will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 from 6 - 8 PM at the Kenyon Funeral Home Inc., #214 West Main Street, Elkland, PA. A service to remember and celebrate Lawrence's life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Kenyon Funeral Home Inc., Elkland, PA. Burial will be on Monday, February 16, 2004 at Tioga County Memorial Gardens in Wellsboro, PA with immediate family members only attending.
