"DEATH OF A YOUNG MAN.--Mr. Jas. W. [sic] BROOKS, eighteen years of age, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. June Hanna, in her 1982 survey listing, reports: Headstone: In / Memory of / James T. Brooks / Born April 4 / 1877 / Died August 16 / 1894; slab: (illegible verse). This grave is in the J. G. DAVIS lot, at the north end of Row 4 in the Old Section (Hanna's Section 1). At present, only the lower half of the headstone, bearing the death year of 1894, can be found (overwritten in black paint or marker that the grave was fixed by Raymond BROOKS). The ledger is inscribed with the following verse: "A PRECIOUS ONE FROM [US] / IS GONE, A VOICE WE / LOVED IS STILL; A PLACE / IS VACANT IN OUR HOME / WHICH NEVER CAN BE / FILLED. / TIS HARD TO BREAK THE / TENDER CORD WHEN LOVE / HAS BOUND THE HEART, / TIS HARD SO HARD TO / SPEAK THE WORD, / MUST WE FOREVER PART"
