|Birth: ||Nov., 1830|
|Death: ||Apr. 27, 1898|
Mary Jane Singleton was the 2nd of 7 children born to my husband's 3rd g-grandparents: Willis Singleton (1772-?) and Mary Ferguson Singleton (1800-?). [Mary Jane's older brother was my husband's gg-grandfather, Newton Singleton (1826-1900)].
On November 3, 1849 Mary married Joshua Nolen Smith aka Noel Smith and had 6 children:
(1) Sarah Adaline Smith Wallace (1850-1926);
(2) Mr. Marion H. Smith (1854-?);
(3) James Monroe Smith (1855-1921);
(4) Martha Elizabeth Smith Reynolds (1858-1939);
(5) Newton Absalom Smith (1863-1944); and
(6) Mary Smith (1865-?).
Mary died from pneumonia at her home on Elm Street in Mt. Vernon Jefferson County, Illinois. Her obituary read:
Mrs. Mary J. Smith, wife of J. N. Smith, died of pneumonia, at her home on Elm Street, at 2:30 this morning. She was 68 years of age and had lived all her life in this county.
She was a member of the Baptist church and was highly respected by all who knew her. She leaves four children, of whom Jerry and Mrs. Robert Wallace are residents of this city. J. N. Smith of Ellis Mound, Hamilton county, and Mrs. M. A. Reynolds of Williamsburg. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning with interment at Reynolds graveyard, near Woodlawn.
My husband and I would love to communicate with any descendants of this family.
