OBITUARY Iron River Reporter April 24 1925 "Mrs. Joseph Brown Dies After Illness of 1 Year; Funeral Services Sunday"
Mrs. Joseph Brown, 109 Cayuga street, died this morning at 4 o'clock after an illness of a year, during which she was a patient sufferer. Although quite ill, few thought the end was near.
Mrs. Brown was one of the widely known and generally beloved women of the community, having lived in Iron River since early youth. She was born in Menominee, Michigan in 1876.
She is survived by her husband and two children, Miss Bernice and Joseph; also two sisters, Mrs. B. Cyperlie of Sheridan, Wis. and Mrs. Luella Canfield of Los Angeles, Cal.; and two brothers, Frank and Jesse Allen of Iron River.

FUNERAL NOTICE Iron River Reporter April 28 1925 "Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Brown Sunday"
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the family residence at 109 Cayuga street for Mrs. Joe Brown, who died Friday morning following an illness of a year. The home was banked with beautiful flowers, and hundreds of sorrowing friends gathered in final tribute to a beloved friend. Services were conducted by the Rev. T.S. Bottrell, pastor of the M.E. church, and the choir sang three hymns. Interment was in the Iron River cemetery.

John F. Allen, a Civil War veteran and an early Iron River settler, married Eliza Wall. Records indicate that John and Eliza, sons Frank, John, Jesse and daughter Minnie came to Iron River in 1882 from Menominee, Michigan.

Eliza wife born Jan 1834 New York age 66 married 45 years 7 children 6 living. Frank son born Sep 1856 Wisconsin age 43 single stone mason. Bert [Burt] son born June 1872 Wisconsin age 27 single day laborer. Minnie daughter born Nov 1875 Michigan age 24.

OBITUARY of brother John Burt Allen 1922 says Mrs Joe Brown of Iron River is his sister. Frank & Jesse are named as brothers; all are children of Civil War veteran John Frank Allen.
