Mrs. Crabtree was born June 25, 1940 in Mount Pleasant to Wilbur F. and Artesia Ellis Wooten. She accepted Christ at an early age as a member of the White Oak Baptist Church and later united with Mount Gilmore Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant where she was a deaconess, member of the missions department, and worked with the youth department. She was a 1958 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, a graduate of Jarvis Christian College, and a graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees, respectively. She did post graduate study at Texas A&M University in Commerce. She taught in the Bastrop ISD for one year before moving back to Mount Pleasant in 1963, where she then taught at Booker T. Washington School and E.C. Brice Elementary. She retired after 34 years of service.
She was elected Teacher Of The Year in the 1990's and was named one of Jarvis Christian College's Distinguished Alumni. She was a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the Classroom Teachers Association, and the National Teachers Association.
