Karl Koenig was born in Russia in 1874. His wife, Christina Kunz, was born at Yankton, South Dakota in 1882. They were married in 1899. They came to Grant County, North Dakota in 1910 from Mound City, South Dakota and homesteaded in Schultz Township, being one of the earlier settlers in the Paradise area. Later moving to their present location which had belonged to Ed Bertch and his sister Pauline.
They had 12 children. Five are now living: Erna (Mrs. Bill Geving); Mary and Pauline of Baker, Montana; Karl Jr. of Minneapolis and Theodore of Carson, North Dakota who now lives on the home place. Theodore married Tecla Riehl in 1949. They have seven children: James, Jeanette, Mark, Linda (Mrs. Ken Bush), Theresa, Carol and Connie.
