Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Navy at Maine. He served as a Boatswain's Mate and the CMOH was issued by General Order Number 32, dated April 16, 1864. His citation reads "Served on board the USS Marblehead off Legareville, Stono River (South Carolina), 25 December 1863, during an engagemment with the enemy on Johns's Island. Behaving in a gallant manner, Farley animated his men and kept up a rapid and effective fire on the enemy throughout the engagement, which resulted in the enemy's abandonment of his positions, leaving a caisson and one gun behind." (bio by: Don Morfe)
