KOEHLER, JOHN HOOVER—John Hoover Koehler was born at Geneva, October 1, 1897, the first child of Clara (Hoover) and Barthold Koehler.
He passed away at Fillmore County hospital at Geneva, Sunday, January 1, 1978, at the age of 80 years and three months.
He attended Geneva public schools, graduating from Geneva high school in 1916. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law, obtaining a bachelor of law degree. Upon graduation, John joined the law firm of Judah, Wilhelms and Reichmann at Chicago, Ill. He lived in Chicago two years.
In 1923 upon the illness of his father, John returned to Geneva to join the famiy business. A. Koehler Co. and he lived the rest of his life here.
He was married to Marguerite Burke on October 9, 1926. To this union two daughters were born, Mary Louise, who died April 16, 1945, and Nancy (Mrs. George) Tyson who is among the survivors.
Mr. Koehler was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, the University of Nebraska Touchdown club, and was a life member of University Alumni association.
Mr. Koehler had been active in community affairs, having served on the Geneva city council and the Fillmore county fair board many years. He also served on the cemetery board.
He was a charter member and past president of the Geneva Rotary club and a past president of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. He was also a 50-year member of the American Legion, of the York Elks lodge and had become an inactive member of the Nebraska Bar association.
He also served as an Ak-Sar-Ben ambassador and was a member of the Century club of the University of Nebraska.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite; a daughter, Mrs. George (Nancy) Tyson of Blair; brothers, Ben and George, both of Geneva; a sister Mrs. Charles (Louise) Picard Sr. of Geneva and two grandchildren, Mary Sue and John Tyson.
Rosary services were held at the Farmer & Son funeral home at Geneva at 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 3.
Funeral services were conducted from St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Geneva at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, with Rev. Walter Banach officiating and delivering the eulogy.
Pallbearers were Dr. J. Q. Adams, Carl Schneider, John R. Bixby, L. J. Weis, Charley M. Hobbs and Sylvester Weis. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
