Barney Joe Limes was born in Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas on April 01, 1930. He was 82 years old when he died.
He is preceded in death by his oldest son, David Cameron Limes; his parents, O L "Barney" and Georgia Limes and his older brother, L L "Ches" Limes.
He is survived by his wife, Paula of the home in Sun City, Georgetown TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Gerald and Suzy Freeny of Cedar Park, TX; his youngest son Britton J Limes MD of West Stockbridge, MA; his sister-in-law, Nancy Limes of Austin, TX and his niece, Leslie Limes Pawelka, her husband Tom and their children, Nick and Aubrey of Austin, TX.
Barney was born in Del Rio because his father, an oil field "driller" was working on a "wildcat well" in that area. He was born in a doctor's clinic because there was no hospital in this remote area. After the well was finished, they moved to Konawa, OK, his mother's home town. He went to grade school in Konawa.
The Oil Drillers at that time, worked "by the well" and they moved from well to well. Barney lived in Konawa, OK, Graham, TX, Meeker, CO, and Dumas, TX.
In 1945 he moved to Maud, OK. It was there, he met his high-school sweetheart, Paula and they were married in March 21, 1947. He was 16 and she was 15.
They started college at Oklahoma City University because he had a football scholarship. The football program was dropped two years later and they transferred to the University of Oklahoma at Norman, OK. After one year at OU, Barney was accepted to OU Medical School and they moved to Oklahoma City.
Barney finished OU Medical School and was graduated in 1955. He started an OU Medical Residency Program but was drafted into the US Navy after one year of residency. He spent 24 months in the Navy, the first year on a ship, the USS FULTON, which was tied up at the dock in New London, CT. The last year in the Navy, Barney was stationed at the Recruiting Depot in Oklahoma City.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Barney decided to go into a Urology Residency Program. He completed this Urology Residency in 1962.
He went into the practice of Urology with James S Boyle MD. Later he started his own private practice. His first partner was John Boaz MD who later moved to Montana. His next partner was Clark Hyde MD, then Robert O Raulston MD and James R Wendelken MD were added to his partnership.
Barney practiced in Oklahoma City and Midwest City for 47 years.
At age 65, he quit performing major surgery and limited his practice to an office practice and out-patient surgery. In 2001, his only office was in Midwest City, associated with James R Mays MD.
Barney was a Board Certified Urologist, becoming a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology in 1968.
He was Chairman of the St. Anthony Hospital Department of Urology from 1976-1980.
Barney and Paula were married 65 years at the time of his death. They married in 1947 and were married 13 years before they started a family. Cam was born in 1960. Suzy in 1962 and Britt in 1964.
In 1997 Barney and Paula joined the Cathedral of Praise Prison Ministry Team, which in 2002 became the Jesse Bufford Prison Ministry Inc. They were coordinators for this ministry. They spent much time in prison, going to Joseph Harp Correctional Center twice a month on Saturday evening and entering Mabel Bassett Correctional Center every Sunday morning for two services.
In 2010, Barney and Paula moved to Sun City Texas to be near their daughter and son-in-law.
Barney loved life, loved people, loved the practice of medicine and loved prison ministry.
He was interred in Maud, OK in the family plot in the Cummings Cemetery.
