Mary E. Black was born May 1,1862 in Oran, Missouri, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Patterson.
Her first marriage was to William
"Billy" Baker. To this union was born two children - William "Willie" Baker and Cora Mae Baker.
On January 27, 1887, she remarried to James "Jim" Allen. This marriage resulted in another son, Louis Jefferson "Louie" Allen and daughter, Mamie Mae Allen.
Mary's third husband was William Marion Black. They were married November 20, 1895 and remained together for almost 37 years until his death. The couple had three children, a son; Lee "Otis" Black and daughters; Ada Black and Sally Katherine Black.
Mary Black had at least four other known siblings. They can be found in census record's and obituaries - two sisters; Sarah Jane (Patterson) Riggs of Parma, Mo., Matilda Ann (Patterson) Batt of Lincoln County, Okla. and two brothers, John Henry Patterson of Piggott, Ark. and Wesley "Wes" Patterson of Tulare County, California.
Mary E. Black died at her home in Matthews, Missouri on March 18th, 1947 at 6:25 p.m. She was 84 years old.
She resided near East Prairie for 55 years, and was a member of the Baptist Church at Big Opening near East Prairie.
