Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Gay Suggs Griffin, age 64 of Ashland, will be Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tipton and Rev. Cleve Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Griffin passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at her home. A native and life-long resident of Clay County. Mrs. Griffin had worked as a seamstress for Robinson Manufacturing Company and had also worked for Ace Products. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, Diane Lowry of Ashland; two sons: Johnny Wayne Griffin Jr. (Barbara) of Ashland and David Eugene Griffin (Robin) of Dallas, GA; two sisters: Eleanor Faye Griffin of South Haven, MI and Shirley Suggs Harris of Ashland; six grandchildren: Tony Watts Lowry, Tiffany Hosay, Scottie Lowry, Breanna Peek, Brandy Lowry and Matthew Griffin plus four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Lavell Suggs and Birtha Mae East Suggs; her husband of 40 years, Johnny Wayne Griffin Sr.; three daughters: Darlene Griffin, Marlene Griffin and Melissa Griffin; one sister, Jannie Mae Hayes and one brother, James Earl Suggs.
Pallbearers will be George Patrick Harris Jr., Leslie Lavell Harris, Marvin Earl Hayes, James Christopher Hayes, James Samford Suggs, William Lavell Suggs, Stevie Harris and Donald McVey.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and until 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday.
