She was born Aug. 7, 1909, on the family farm in Eagle Point township, the daughter of Mancil and Gertrude (Waggoner) Shipman.
Gail attended the First Ward Grammar School in Chippewa Falls and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School, a member of the class of 1928. After an additional year of teacher training, Gail began her teaching career in the rural schools of Chippewa County. In 1937, she entered the Chippewa Falls public school system, where she remained as librarian in the junior high school until her retirement.
She had been a resident of the Cornell Area Care Center since June 21, 2001.
She is survived by: six nieces, Bee Shipman Nelson of Shell Lake, Barbara Shipman (Wesley) Olson of Sheboygan Falls, Julia Muenich (Robert) Poppe of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elizabeth Muenich (Jeffrey) Schaefer of Wisconsin Rapids, Suzanne Shipman Murray of Pewaukee, and Sandra Shipman (Arlan) Gunderson of Gilman; two nephews, John Bjerke of Cornell and Elmer LeRoy (Carol Chase) Bjerke of Madison; a brother-in-law, Harold Muenich of Eau Claire; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; 25 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and one great-great-grandnephew.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; two sisters, Sarah Shipman Bjerke (and her husband, Elmer) and Louise Shipman Muenich; and two brothers and their wives, William (Erna) Shipman and Mancil (Eunice, Hellen) Shipman of Bloomer.
A private interment service will be held at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
A Memorial Service of Remembrance for family, former colleagues, and friends will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 1 with dinner to follow in the church parlors.
