ALEDO, Ill. - John W. Dugan, 89, a resident of the Aledo Health and Rehabilitation Center, Aledo, Ill., formerly of Milan, Ill., died Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the center.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, military honors conducted by the Milan American Legion Post No. 569/200 and the Rock Island VFW Post No. 1303.
John was born March 1, 1923, in Burlington, Iowa, a son of Albert P. Dugan and Nellie Schulte Dugan. He married Betty Tary on January 15, 1943, in Chicago. Mr. Dugan worked as an electrician for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years. John served as a trustee for the Village of Milan for many years. While a trustee, he oversaw the village water dept. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, and the St. Patrick's Society of the Quad-Cities. John also built many homes and custom motorcoaches in the Quad-Cities. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and taking care of his fruit trees. John was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter, Mary Seymour, Delmar, Iowa; a son, Thomas (Peggy) Dugan, Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Rita Daxon, Rock Island, JoAnn DeVrieze, East Moline, Martha (Earl) Kroeger, Rock Island, and Pauline Dugan, Kansas.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, James Seymour; and siblings, Paul Dugan, Betty Ternoy, Harold Dugan, Bernadine DeWitt, Helen Polka and Alice Johnson.
