NOTE: He appears in 1910 and 1920 Massachusetts census records with a middle initial G, and this is what is recorded on his stone. His birth record gives him a middle name of Emerson.

He may be the Howard G Cardwell found in the 1930 census in Philadelphia with a wife named Gladys and a son Howard G Cardwell.

Funeral Notice -- Wednesday, September 8,1965, Springfield Union:

Shelburne Falls - Graveside services for Howard G Cardwell, 51, of Birmingham, Mich., native of this town, who died Monday at Ford Hospital, Detroit, Mich., will be held Thursday at Arms Cemetery. Smith Funeral home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr Cardwell was born in Shelburne, Jan 31, 1904, son of George and Sarah (Emerson) Cardwell. He was a 1922 graduate of Arms Academy and excelled in athletics. Attended Deane Academy and Syracuse University. Retired in April 1964 as buyer for Kresge Co. He resided in Detroit for 21 years. Besides his wife Evelyn, he leaves one son James of Ohio, one sister Mrs Gertrude Boudreau of Fla., and one cousin Mrs John Shippee of this town.
