Dorothy Mae Orey
1919 - 2012
Ms. Orey was born in Springfield, Illinois on July 3, 1919 and passed away September 7, 2012 in Pensacola, Florida following a long illness. She was 93 years old.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Strode and Norma Haynes. She was married to Burt Cornelius, Jay Logan, and Walter Orey, all deceased.
Ms. Orey attended Springfield Public Schools and graduated from Springfield High School. While in Springfield, she was a member of Third Presbyterian Church. In the early 1960s she was instrumental in helping Cuban refugee children escape from Cuba and relocate to the United States. She continued working for the Presbyterian Church and traveled extensively with her second husband Jay Logan in helping poor people around the world.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dean DeBolt, Pensacola, Florida, Son and daughter-in-law, James and Karen Cornelius of Milford, New Jersey, and son Ronald Dean Cornelius of Palo Alto, California. She has one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer and James O'Brien of Jacksonville, Florida and two great grandchildren, William Aaron O'Brien and Jordan Lynn O'Brien, also of Jacksonville, Florida. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
