Samuel James "Sundown" Monroe Jr., age 45, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the St. Joseph hospital.
He was born May 29, 1961, to Juanita (Adkins) Monroe and Samuel J. Monroe Sr. He was raised in Waterloo, Iowa, but resided in St. Joseph most of his life.
Sam worked as a landscaper, painter and construction laborer.
Sam loved the outdoors, camping and was an avid fisherman, and loved motorcycles and to have fun.
He was preceded in death by his father, SamuelMonroe Sr.; grandmother, Florence Daughtery; grandmother, Nadine Head; grandfather, John Adkins; nephew, Justin Monroe ; and a niece, Echo L. Kerns.
Survivors include two children, Matthew J. Jansen and Mandy J. Jansen, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his mother, Juanita K. Clouse; and grandmother, Mary Adkins, both of St. Joseph; two brothers, Steve Monroe , and wife, Samantha; and John Clouse, all of St. Joseph; three sisters, Lestina ( Monroe ) Sowders, and husband, Mike; and Ronda (Clouse) Kerns, both of St. Joseph; and Genia ( Monroe ) Robinett, Maysville, Mo.; five nieces, Ann, Samantha "Pebbles," Stormy, Shelby and Madison; eight nephews, Corey, Steven, Cameron, J.J., Spencer, Colby, Gerald and Steve; three great-nieces, Kyla, Angel and Sage; a great-nephew, Cody; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Sundown was loved by all.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Interment will be at Bethel Cemetery, DeKalb, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
