Orlando was born 15 Jul 1917 at Rigby, Jefferson, Idaho to George A. Smith and Eunice Catherine Heyrend Smith. He grew up on a farm East of Ririe, which had been homesteaded by his grandfather. He attended school in Ririe. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Agriculture from Utah State University.
He married Aletha Mae Reeder 17 Dec 1939 in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho. They had six children Anita, Jane, Catherine Louise, Cynthia, Brian Ray, and Orlando Cort "Cort". Aletha preceded him in death. He married Mary Burkhaltet 23 Aug 2001 in Rigby, Jefferson, Idaho. He farmed in the Poplar area until retirement in 1984.
After retirement he wintered in Lake Havasu City, Arizona where he was active in the Lake Havasu City Gem and Mineral Club. He loved fishing, traveling, exercising, and reading. He was an avid rock hound and enjoyed silversmithing and lapidary work. He belonged to the rolling Russetts Chapter of the Good Sam RV Club, the Lions Club, and was a founding member of the Pine Bay Boat Club. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He died 19 Jun 2002 in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho at the Idaho Falls Care Center. He is buried in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery, Ririe, Bonneville, Idaho.
