The funeral for Cora B. Mattson, 91, of New Rockford was held Tues. at 11 a.m. at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. Interment was in the Klara Lutheran Cemetery, rural Heimdal.
Rev. Lori Keyser-Boswell officiated. Pallbearers were Michael & Patrick Randall, Odell Hakanson, Harry Helmstettler, Wendell Simonsen, Glenn Davidson, Larry Guskjolen & Randy & Dean Hagen. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock was in charge of arrangements.
Cora B. Mattson was born Jan. 4, 1906 near Hesper to Syver & Karen Tangen Bratlien. She was raised & educated there & also attended the Maddock School for a time. Her mother died when she was 12 & she helped her father raise the family. She married George Mattson Oct. 31, 1924 in Minnewaukan. They lived in Drake from the spring to the fall of 1925 & then moved to a farm southwest of Maddock in 1926. They spent several winters in Seattle, where she worked as a cook in a high school. She also worked at Kirten Cafe in Harvey. In 1941 they purchased a farm of their own near Maddock & in 1968 moved into Maddock, where she worked as a cook at the Maddock School. He died Sept. 20, 1979. After a stroke in 1983, she moved to the Harvey nursing home. After spending a year there she moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
She was a member of Klara Lutheran Church & its ladies aid & was a former member of the Arne Homemakers Club.
Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law, Marlyes & Paul Ongo of Palm Desert, Calif.; 2 grandsons; 6 great-grandchildren; & a sister, Mavis Sirong of Spokane, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; 2 brothers, George & Kaare Bratlien; & 4 sisters, Anna Raffarty, Effie Brainard, Hattie Tennell & Irene Brainard.
