Newspaperman, lawyer and at one time president of the Texas senate. He made many enemies, among them Albert B. Fall and politician Oliver Lee. In 1896 Fountain and his eight-year old son were returning from a court session in Lincoln, NM when they disappeared without a trace. Oliver Lee; his foreman, Jim Gililland; and Bill McNew were tried for murder but acquitted.
