Johanna, age 19, married Heimrich Johann (Henry John) Lipke, age 26, in Germany in 1884. They had four children born in Germany (the first three unknown children were born between 1884 and 1889; then daughter Martha was born in Nov. 1890 (The three first born unknown children were deceased per the 1900 US Census. I believe they died before the 1891 family immigration).
The Lipke family immigrated to America in March 1891. I believe she immigrated with her sister Minnie, her husband Albert, and their young son Otto on the ship "Bohemia" which arrived at the Port of New York on 12 Apr 1891. The Siefert family went to St. Paul, Minnesota before eventually settling in New Berlin, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. The Lipke family settled in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
(See memorial page of Minna "Minnie" (Gross) Siefert at #6511694).
Later in 1891 (most likely late summer), her younger brother Edward (my great-grandfather) arrived in Minnesota, USA from Canada. No record of his passage from Germany exists as he was a stowaway on the ship bound for Canada. He arrived in Milwaukee County in 1894 and married Frances Kamrath in Feb. 1898 in Waukesha County where they settled (Muskego).
(See memorial page for Edward Gross at #6484764).
Henry and Hanna Lipke had six more children in Allegheny County, PA: Carl (b. Sept 1892), Bertha (b. Feb 1894), Anna (b. July 1896), Henry (b. Mar 1898), Amel (b. Dec 1899) and Shannon Edward (b. Dec 1908).
The parents grieved the death of their son Carl in Nov. 1896 at the age of 4. Son Amel died as a toddler in about 1902.
Her nephew, Herbert Gross, died at age 12 in Feb. 1911 and her nephew, Otto Siefert, died at age 28 in Nov. 1918.
Hanna Lipke died at age 57. She was survived by her husband Henry, five of her ten children; daughters Mrs Martha Haug, Bertha Lipke, Mrs Anna Lorentz and sons Henry and Edward Lipke. Also survived by 6 known grandchildren born between 1914 and 1920. Survived also by her sister Minnie (Albert) Siefert and brother Edward (Frances) Gross and by nieces Mrs Irma Gollop and Miss Neoda Gross in Wisconsin.
