Letha H. Clark, 83, of Independence, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday at Mercy Hospital, where she had been admitted Wednesday. She had been a resident of the Lodge of Independence for several years.
Cremation has taken place and private inurnment will take place later at Fairview Cemetery in Niotaze. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at the Lodge of Independence with the Rev. Dale Cornett officiating. Friends may call at Potts Chapel to register from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and at the Lodge of Independence after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the Lodge of Independence and will be received at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clark was born on Jan. 15, 1916, in Chautauqua County to Henry O. and Lulu M. (Geeseman) Helvie. She grew up and attended school in Tulsa, Okla, graduating from Central High in 1933. She then took cosmetology training.
On May 3, 1939 she married Cecil Clair Clark in Columbus. The couple made their home in Wyoming and later in Russell and Peru before moving to Independence in 1962. After moving to Independence, the couple founded and operated the Clark's School of Cosmetology and Professional Beauty Salons, which they operated until 1976. Mr. Clark died in 1992.
In earlier years, she was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Kansas Cosmetologists Association.
