Martha Frances Swofford McDavitt, 83, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Helmwood Health Care Facility.

She was a native of Richmond and a 56-year member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She taught school at Elizabethtown High School, Elizabethtown Catholic High School and T.K. Stone Middle School and enjoyed volunteering at the church and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar A. McDavitt; and her parents, Oscar Morris and Ethel Walker Swofford.

She is survived by two children, Polly (Conway) Stone and Allen McDavitt, all of Louisville; one brother, Oscar Morris Swofford of Lexington; one granddaughter, Mariah L. McDavitt of Louisville; 11 nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rachel Marshall officiating. Burial follows in Hardin Memorial Park.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
