| Birth: | Feb. 7, 1896 | | Death: | Apr. 11, 1917 | World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he served as a Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, British Army. On April 11, 1917, Lieutenant Mackintosh was leading his men in an advance on a German position north of Fampoux, France. He was shot through the right leg, but although crippled, continued to lead his men and captured the trench. He then collected men from another company, who he led in a counter-attack, when he was again wounded. Nevertheless he continued to control the situation. With only 15 men left, he ordered them to be ready to advance to the final objective and with great difficulty got out of the trench, led them to advance, when he was wounded yet again and fell dead. For most prestigious gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on June 8, 1917. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
