Unlimited Hydroplane Driver. He was one of the most successful and dominant drivers in the history of unlimited hydroplanes. During his career, he won eight Gold Cups, four World Championships and seven National High Point Championships spanning 25 years of racing. Between 1956 and 1981, he recorded 62 total career victories and was regarded as the superstar of the sport. He gained notoriety during the 1958 Seattle Gold Cup race on Lake Washington when he lost control of his boat, ramming and sinking a U.S. Coast Guard Cutter. Named national driver of the year seven times by the National Power Boat Association (APBA), he was killed driving the Atlas Van Lines in a blow over accident at the World Championship Regatta in Acapulco, Mexico. Considered the greatest hydroplane racer in power boat history, he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2004. (bio by: Nils M. Solsvik Jr.)
