Anne Lavinia Lewis Nugent was the daughter of Nancy Hardeman and Seth Lewis. She attended Elizabeth Academy in Washington, Mississippi, and on March 7, 1827, she married John Pratt Nugent in New Orleans. They had nine children:

1. Aphra Pratt Nugent (b. 26 July 1828 - d. 6 Nov 1908, Chattanooga, Tennessee) who married Francis Anderson Boyle.
2. Perry Nugent (b. 20 Jan 1831 - d. 14 May 1900, Greenville, Mississippi), president of New Orleans Cotton Exchange, who married Amanda Keep Cook of New Orleans.
3. William Lewis Nugent (b. 12 Dec 1832 - d. 18 Jan 1897, Jackson, Mississippi), a Civil War colonel and lawyer who married Eleanor Fulkerson Smith (d. 1866); Kate Montgomery (died in childbirth); and then Aimee Webb from Alabama.
4. Richard James Nugent (b. 14 Nov 1834 - d. 8 Aug 1891, New Orleans), cotton farmer in Bolivar County, Mississippi, who married Mary Coralie Guilbert Smith.
5. John Pratt Nugent, Jr. (b. 6 Nov 1836 - d. 5 Nov 1888, Boliver County, Mississippi).
6. Amelia Thomson Nugent (b. 1 Jan 1839 0 d. 4 Mar 1909) who married Julius Vairin.
7. Thomas Lewis Nugent (b. 16 July 1841 - d. 14 Dec 1895, Fort Worth, Texas), a lawyer and judge who married Clara Hardeman.
8. Clarence Jewell Nugent (b. Dec 1843 - d. Oct 1915), Methodist minister in Kentucky who married Addie May Alexander of Alena, Arkansas.
9. Anna Maria "Nannie" Nugent (b. 8 Aug 1850 - d. 1923, New Orleans) who married James Edmonds.
