Airplane inventor. His first plane, built in 1909, flew 100 feet, reaching an altitude of two feet. A barnstorming flyer from 1910-14, he began his aircraft company in 1911, and developed several military airplanes. The first Martin bomber appeared in 1918-19, too late for use in WW1. He built "clippers," the B-10 bomber, and the Marauder.
