Mary Elizabeth Cone Benton, 91, of Pooler, died March 8 at home.

She was a native of Bulloch County and the widow of Frank D. Benton. She was a public school teacher for 19 years before moving to Chatham county. She was a charter member of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., an honorary member of the Savannah Area Council of Garden Clubs and the Florilla Arrangers Club, having served in numerous offices therein.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler, where she was a former Sunday school, past president of the United Methodist Women, served on the official board and was voted Mother of the Year. She donated debt free the five acres where Trinity United Methodist Church of Pooler is now located (320 Benton Drive, Pooler, Georgia). She was a member of the UDC, Savannah Chapter No. 2.

Survivors: a daughter, Rebecca Cone Benton of Pooler; a brother, Louis H.. Cone of Tucker; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas C. Strickland Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at Thomas C. Strickland Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel, burial in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park on Wheaton Street.
