Miss Lorancy Brown died at the residence of Henry and Edward Carrington, in Coventry, Tuesday morning, September 6th 1887. Miss Brown was born in Afton, January 7th, 1837, and was the daughter of E.M. Brown, now of Nineveh. Her mother died a few days after the birth of her child, and Lorancy was taken, when three weeks old, by her grandparents, the late Moses Hinman and wife, of this town, and her home has always been with that family.

The life of Miss Brown has been a quiet, useful and self-sacrificing one. She developed a lovely character, was retiring in her disposition, and by her genial kindness of heart won and attached to herself a very large circle of friends. Her heart was always open to the appeals of others and her hands ready to minister to their wants. It seemed to be her delight to make others happy. Such as she are not forgotten when they die. Their memory remains fresh and fragrant long after they are gone.

Her last illness was a long and painful one, and through it she was tenderly carely for by the loving friends where she died. Her funeral occurred Sept. 8th. In response to her request the services were conducted by the Rev. W.H. Sawtello of Athens, PA, formerly of Nineveh. The attendance was very large and the sorrowful countenances and tearful eyes spoke more plainly than words could of the deep sense of the loss which the community had experienced. The burial was at Glenwood cemetery Afton.
