James Bradford was born in Virginia June 25, 1800 (stone says 1801) the son of John Bradford and Miss Strouse. They were the parents of 11 children, James being the 10th child in the family.
About 1809 the family moved to the Coshocton Co. area of Ohio. James married Crestine Leeper Sept 8, 1825 in Guernsey County, Ohio.
They were the parents of 8 children, 3 sons and 5 daughters, before the mother died in the early 1840's. James then married Margaret Delilah Scott in Coshocton Co. Ohio in 1846.
Not long after this, Maria, 2nd daughter of James Bradford, married James R. Williams and they came to Bloomington, IL with their 2 small sons.
In 1853 James Bradford, his wife Margaret, his 7 older children, 2 grandchildren, 2 young sons, and 1 step-son moved from Ohio to Lexington, IL and then on to Lawndale Twp. Six more children were born to James and Margaret after they moved to Illinois.
James Bradford died August 5, 1875 at age 75 years 1 month and 11 days. He was buried in the Fairview Cemetery just east of where his family lived in Lawndale Twp.
His wife Margaret Scott Bradford was born May 25, 1824 in New York and died Aug 19, 1907 Colfax, IL and is buried in Wiley Cem @ Colfax.
