Seymour resident, Bruce Bailey, age 81, passed from this life on Thursday, August 30, 2001, at the Hospice of Wichita Falls. Funeral services were held at at the Seymour Church of Christ with Scotte Clark and A.B. Martin officiating. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by VFW Post #7871.
Mr. Bailey was born in Knox County, near the community of Red Springs, on December 13, 1919, to C.C. and Ruth Bailey, one of thirteen children.
He married Thelma Blankenship on May 15, 1941, in Westover, Texas.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a machine gunner in the 304th Infantry in the European Theatre. He was a recipient of the Medal of Valor, and had been a member of the VFW for 35 years.
Mr. Bailey retired in 1982 from Purolator Courier Services. He was a member of the Seymour Church of Christ.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by one son, Robert Bruce Bailey in 1951; by five brothers, seven sisters and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma of the home; one sister-in-law, Linda Blankenship of the home; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Harold and Faye Stewart of Olney, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Thelbert and Peggy Blankenship of Wichita Falls, Texas; and three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bailey of Loveland, Colorado, Lori Bailey of Longmont, Colorado, and Juanita Bailey of Butte, Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Boyd Bailey, Chris Bailey, Ronnie Bailey, Chris Key, Bob Robinson, and Perry Hudson.
