Walter Lorrain Brodie
Birth: Jul. 28, 1885
Death: Aug. 23, 1918

World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he served as a Captain in the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, British Army. On November 11, 1914, near Becelaere, Belgium, Captain Brodie led a charge to evade the Germans from a portion of British trenches which they had succeeded in occupying. He bayoneted several of the enemy himself and relieved a dangerous situation. As a result of Captain Brodie's prompt action, 80 of the enemy were killed and 51 taken prisoner. For most conspicuous gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on December 12, 1914. He later achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was killed at age 33 in actions at Bienvillers, France. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
