When Sgt Lester Howland Anderson was born on June 19, 1916, in West Long Branch, New Jersey, his father, George, was 21 and his mother, Blanche, was 24. He was married twice. He died on July 9, 2003, in St Johns, Florida, at the age of 87, and was buried in Orange Park, Florida.


ANDERSON - Lester H. Anderson, Sr., 84, of Jacksonville, FL, born June 19, 1919 in West Long Branch, NJ., passed away July 9, 2003 at Shands of Jacksonville. Mr. Anderson served his country during WWII with the 3rd Armed Division under General Patton as a Tank Commander. He received the Silver Star and the French Braid of Honor. Mr. Anderson was a former Captain of the Long Branch First Aid Squad in New Jersey. He was also a retired Plumber by trade. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Anderson; his sisters, Vera Orner and Norma White. He is survived by his daughter with whom he lives, Donna Size (Joe) of Jacksonville; his son, Lester H. Jr. Anderson (Paulette) of Simpsonville, SC; his brothers, George Anderson (Dolly) of Lincroft, NJ and Byron Anderson (Alberta) of San Diego, CA; his sister, Shirley Bernacki (Walter) of Eatontown, NJ; five grandsons, one granddaughter, two great granddaughters, one great great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 10, 2003 at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Family and friends will gather from 10:0011:00 AM prior to the service.
