Son of John M. Campbell born 1790, (mar) Mary Ann(GISH) Gish she was born 1800, Married 6/30/1819 in Botetourte County, VA. She was the daughter of John G Gish and Mary Margaret Wagner.

Co.D,19th Battalion,Va.Heavy Artillery-CSA: NOTES:
Enlisted in the Confederate Army on 11/7/1863, in Richmond, VA. He served in the VA 19th Heavy Artillery Company D. He was absent sick at Battn. Hospital for Jan. and Feb. 1865. this unit saw light action around Richmond, VA. The unit has 1360 man, 18 were killed in action, 24 were wounded, 129 we captured and became prisoners of war, and 72 died of disease. Yellow Fever was a big killer during the Civil War. Joel Henry Campbell formed this unit in Amherst, Va. In 1900 Charles began receiving a pension of about $15.00 per month. R. H. Wood T. 19th also served in this unit. In the hospital April 12, 1865, died on May 14, 1865, of meningitis.

the leg.

He is buried in the Campbell Burying Ground located just off Welcome Vally Road in Roanoke County, Virginia not far from Rt. 220 South.
