Champion Racehorse. Considered one of the best racers of his time, he won 9 of the 13 races in which he competed and placed second in one. His major wins include the New Stakes, the Dewhurst Stakes, the Prince of Whales Stakes, the Chester Vase, the Epsom Derby, the St. Leger Stakes, the March Stakes and the Burwell Stakes. At the age of five, he was retired to stud. Among his notable children are racers Aureole, Godiva, Gulf Stream, Hypericum, Owen Tudor, Pensive, Sun Chariot, Sun Stream and Heliopolis. He won the "Leading sire in BG and Ireland" award six times (1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1945, 1946, 1954) and the "Leading broodmare sire in Britain and Ireland" award four times (1948, 1957, 1967, 1968). A life-size bronze statue of him stands at the front of the Jockey Club headquarters in Newmarket, Suffolk, United Kingdom. He passed away at the age of 30 and his skeleton is on display at the National Horseracing Museum also located in Newmarket.  (bio by: Whispers From The Grave)
