Was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina on November 3, 1836. He migrated to Texas in about 1860. From his Civil War Pension Application/approved, #6053, he enlisted in Company A, 13th Texas Cavalry (Dismounted) in February 1862 at Centreville, Leon County, Texas. Jacob served 3 years and 3 months. His application had accompanying certified depositions by H. Durst and B. Durst, who said they were officers in the Company. Both these officers resided in Leon County, Texas at the time of their deposition. He is shown in the 1880 Census in Grimes County (1880 BENNICK JACOB Grimes County TX 096 E. D. 62 Federal Population Schedule TX 1880 Federal Census Index TX28930825). Jacob relocated to Walker County in about 1896. Jacob Bennick died August 26, 1909 in Walker County, Texas. He is buried at the Oakwood Cemetery, Section 1, Huntsville, Walker County, Texas--the same cemetery where Sam Houston is buried.
