Services were conducted today at 1:30 p.m. from the Kittinger Funeral Home Chapel for John B. Stephan, 90 year old retired oilfield worker who passed away Saturday. The Rev. Dave Blazier and Dannie Martin officiated and burial was in Kuykendall Cemetery.
Mr. Stephan, of 110 South Staley Steet, succumbed at 5:50 p.m. in Carmi Township Hosital. He had been in failing health six months and was a patient in the hospital for two weeks.
He was born July 13, 1884, in White County, the son of John C. and Ellen Long Stephan. His first marriage was to Sarah Hanold, who proceeded him in death. In later years he was married to Bessie Cornwell, who survives.
His entire live was spent in and around Carmi, where he was a member of the East Side Pentecostal Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Norman and Glen Stephan, bot of Carmi; a daughter, Mrs. Mamie Titzer, Norris City, Route 1; one brother, Dan Stephan, Sorento, a step granddaughter, Janice Daniels, Elgin, who was reared in the Stephan home; two step sons, Aubrey Cornwell, Los Angeles, and Earl Cornwell, Wichita, Kansas; three step daughtes, Mrs Rose Allen, Ponca City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Lucille Buckman, Long Beach, Califonia, and Mrs. Roy (Pearl) Emery, Carmi; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A brother, Charles Stephan, proceeded him in death and a sister at the age of seven years.
